Do not savor that which is bitter in your heart. Remember also, there is something sweet. The bitterness is but a sharp reminder to awaken and the sweetness calls you back to the home of blood beating in your veins, of feet dancing down the winter rain, of the coming in of something, always new.

Do not bathe in the bitter, it is but a tang for the living. Let your tongue dance instead to spices and smoothness, to voluptuous richness of flavor. Call in cinnamon, and apple. Call in hope.

Kiss the world, in all it's beauty, and it's sorrow. Kiss your life, ever returning to the sources of our love.

  • "Do not savor that which is bitter in your heart. Remember also, there is something sweet."

    Thank you for reminding me.
  • I was eating broccoli rabe while reading this post. It was a surreal moment to savor the bitter in my mouth while being implored not to do so in my heart. ;-)
  • Thank you for this.
  • Brilliant... and much needed!
  • ---but, I want it ALL !
The bitter *and* the sweet---I *Want* that tiny bitter edge to my sweet apple---the beauty *and* the sorrow---I want to ignore nothing, to deny nothing.

to savor the whole world--ALL of it----Too much bitter can overwhelm, too much sweet can Also make you sick...
Each, in the right amount, makes us alive and healthy---and, "the right amount" might be different at different times, even for the same person
    • Yes. Inclusion is powerful practice - as I wrote, the bitter adds a tang to life - however, sometimes we get stuck in it and savor it too much.
  • Thank you for this. Gorgeous.
    Kisses
  • Takin in the sweetness...

    Thank you, Thorn!

I was just needing to remind myself of this truth...
