What is Remembered...

I usually don't do two posts in one morning, but forgot that today is Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Far, far, too many of our brothers and sisters have been murdered this year. My heart goes out to all who grieve.

Here, again, is the prayer written by Tristissima last year (hir words in italics, my additions not, with a few new ones this year):
Hermaphroditus, look at the names of the dead.
Ardhanarisvara, read the names of the dead.
Melek Ta'us, remember the names of the dead.
Eris, look at the names of the dead.
Antinous, read the names of the dead.
Hoor-paar-kraat, remember the names of the dead.
Tlazolteotl, look at the names of the dead.
Azathoth, look at the names of the dead.
Pomba-Gira, read the names of the dead.
Inanna, remember the names of the dead.

Baphomet, look at the names of the dead.
Avalokitesvara, read the names of the dead.
Faro, remember the names of the dead.
Ymir, look at the names of the dead.
Indra, read the names of the dead.
Ometeotl, remember the names of the dead.

What is remembered, lives.
  • Bringer of the water of life to Inanna, you whom Ereshkigal could not hold, may you and all your Brilliant Faced Ones drink deeply of the water of life, that the sentence Ereshkigal pronounced upon you shall be lifted. It is we who must descend into the underworld of others' hatred and fear to bring forth the earthen jug for your lips.
  • Lilitu, hold the names of the dead.

(My sister Little Light and I have been talking about our Mother Lilith a lot lately.)
  • What is remembered, lives.

    We shall always remember.

  • Thank you for this. I didn't realize that it was Transgender Day of Remembrance yesterday. We are having the memorial service here in Houston on Saturday. The group uses our space so I am honored to get to attend.
